How long have you been on DeviantArt?
I joined the Deviantart community on October 8th 2012 and it is soon to be 3 years. Since I have grown as an artist and I feel like the Deviantart community has contributed a lot to that growth.
What does your username mean?
My user name actually came from a summer when I went to a Christian Camp during my high school years. I know your first initial thought to that is "Oh, so BORING!" but actually it was a lot of fun. I met new people and grew closer to the youth from my church and even gained some new friendships from the experience. One thing that I found to be so surprising is how kind and social everyone was there. You could walk up to anyone and talk to them and would get a kind response. While I was drawing people would come up and compliment my artwork. I even did a chalk drawing the following year and the worship band came and complimented it.
Anyways, it was in the cabin where I got the name "Jean Guru" because one of the guys from my church asked me if he should wear shorts or jeans. I told him jeans and it turned out that was a good choice. So he dubbed me the "Jean Guru." Very strange I know but it's a nice memory of the fun I had those two years.
That camp helped me to grow in faith and as a person so regardless of your religious stance or lack there of, it was a nice experience and I wanted to share that.
Describe yourself in three words.
Kind, Quirky, and Social
Are you left or right handed?
Left actually, people find that to be surprising when they find out I am an artist. Hands usage shouldn't determine artistic skill; that is measured by experience and practice within that field. Weather you are a painter or a spray paint artist.
What was your first deviation?
My Adventure Time drawing from 2012. I never finished that actually. I think I might start a new one when I have the time. I've learned a few things since then. I should finish my other drawings first. That would be the smart thing to do.
What is your favourite type of art to create?
I always have had an interest in drawing people. I don't now why but I enjoy that over landscapes and architectural drawings and paintings. However, mediums get a bit more tricky since I work with many different traditional mediums.
Medium wise from favorite to least favorite in descending order:
(Never) Tempera Paint (It is gross and flaky)
If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Photography. I see the world as a photographer would but I don't have the ability to convey it the way some artists can. That is what I adore about Photography. You can capture the world in such a way to give it new meaning and gives one the power to show and share that visual language with others without a word spoken.
What was your first favorite?
As shown by my last page of Favorites it happens to be Photography. The piece is titled "Window To My Soul" and it is by oO-Rein-Oo. I just added them to my watch list now. Silly me, I didn't do that before. I just like the texture of the water reflection and the emotion of the piece. When looking at it the image it expresses the idea of a reflection creating a window into the soul. A place where you can view your true self.
What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
Fanart, Digital, Traditional, Photography, cosplay, ect. It is all over the place. Just take a look for yourself
Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
I have many. That is a very hard question to answer. I will just let you determine it based on the artist I favorite the most.
If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
Carli Ihde because I feel like we would actually get along well. I was one of the artists, out of many, who decided to be part of her one drawing a day tumblr blog. It was a very fun idea and I grew as an artist because of it. It pushed me to draw more often and I truly enjoy my spirit animal drawing that I did for the blog.
How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Carli Ihde is one of them because of the blog but there are also some people I have met in the real world that are on here that I feel have impacted me in the respect of becoming who I am today.
My Beautiful girlfriend who is one of my biggest fans and an all around amazing person. Thank you for always being there.
For being a nice friend and toughing it out with me through our very boring English class.
For letting me draw you and for being a cool artsy person. Mother Russia herself .
For being an inspirational artist and one of the coolest underclassmen I had the pleasure of meeting.
For being very passionate about her art and always there to talk to after church. Keep up the artwork my friend.
What are your preferred tools to create art?
Pencils, Pens, and Paints.
What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
In my room, at a desk, and listening to music. Really helps to get my artistic juices flowing.
What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
I would have to say getting my first comment. I really appreciate it when people compliment my art. I also like to compliment others on their art because I like to see others happy and i like to inspire them to continue with art. So pretty much receiving comments and sending comments on DeviantArt.
